INGLIS AWARDED $10,000 GRANT FROM MORGAN STANLEY FOUNDATION

Inglis Foundation, provider of programs and services for younger adults with physical disabilities, received a $10,000 grant on January 9, 2006, from the Morgan Stanley Foundation, Philadelphia, PA, to support the development of an Environmental Control Unit Trial and Training Station for residents of Inglis House, a non-profit subsidiary of Inglis Foundation that provides long-term care to 297 adults.

An Environmental Control Unit is a piece of assistive technology - usually in the form of a remote control - that enables an individual with a physical disability to regain control over their surrounding physical environment. It provides an effective, consistent and independent means for the user to operate various appliances in the home, office or classroom. People with physical disabilities using an ECU can independently operate a TV, DVD player, computer, light switches, telephone, hospital bed, thermostats and much more.

Inglis Foundation works with people with physical disabilities to create and provide practical solutions so they may pursue their life goals. Services include long-term care, accessible housing, an adult day program, care management, durable medical equipment, attendant care services and community employment.
