A Story of Connection, Independence, and Love

Therese beams as she proudly lifts a spoon to feed herself—a milestone once unimaginable after losing all four limbs to sepsis. Thanks to therapy and support at Inglis, she is not only rebuilding her independence but rediscovering joy.
But it wasn’t always this way.
When Therese first arrived at Inglis House, she was overwhelmed and heartbroken. “I cried every day in the beginning,” she remembers. Slowly, through therapy made possible by donors like you—along with her faith and the encouragement of others—Therese began to find her strength again. “If you can’t beat them, join them,” she says now with a smile. “And I wasn’t going to give up.”
Today, Therese has a bold vision for her future: returning to her ranch home, continuing outpatient therapy, and one day coming back to Inglis as a volunteer to inspire others. Along the way, she’s built deep friendships—reminding herself and others that independence is not only possible, but within reach.

Community has been her anchor. At Inglis House, she participates in the Finding Your Roots genealogy group, attends worship services, and treasures her daily phone calls with family. On weekends, her son and grandchildren visit, filling her with joy and purpose as they gather around their beloved “Memaw.” She delights in outings too—sharing burgers with friends at Five Guys, rolling through the aisles at ACME, and even surfing in Wildwood.
Therese’s story is living proof: life at Inglis House is about more than care. It’s about connection, independence, and love.
And this kind of transformation is only possible because of you. Medicaid covers the basics—meals, room, and medical care—but not the therapies that build strength, the outings that spark joy, or the programs that foster belonging. Your generosity makes all the difference.
